MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rear axle / diff rebuild
While my axle is off the car I am stripping it and doing a full rebuild. I have checked the diff over and it's a 3.7 all gears are in excellent condition when I have checked the trust washers there seems to be a little pla on the smaller planet gears. I can move them with a screw driver. I am presuming these would benefit from new thrust washers. Is this an easy enough job to replace on a work bench. |

Easy if the pin comes out - see Greg's thread |

Hi, here is an article from the MG Experience website library, hopefully it will be a helpful supplement to the Bentley manual for you Norm |

Norm, it's a bit short on content and substance :) |

I take it I just need to follow 1-6 to replace the thrust washers it says to make sure you mark every thing so it all goes back together the same. How important is this? All gears are perfect condition so can't see it making a difference. Where do I order a new pin from moss don't have them in stock. |

The important thing to mark is the bearing caps. They may already have have factory number stamps on them. I got all my bits from MGOC except the small retaiing pin which I had to get from morrisminorspares.co.uk. Like Dave says, it's an easy job if the pin comes out. Mine is now back together. :) |

That's the little pin I need I will get that from Morris minor spares too then. Wonder why moss or mgoc don't seem to have them in stock |
