MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rear hub nut

Can anyone confirm the correct socket size for the rear hub retaining nut on a 1275? Mines been a bit chiseled at but I reckon it needs a 1 7/8" AF socket; however I have seen on some sites that it's 1 5/8". Don't want to waste money buying the wrong one!

mine's 1 7/8" (original) but I've heard rumours that current replacement nuts may be a different size...

Mine are 1 and 7/8ths also, can't realy see how a new nut could possibly be 1 and 5/8ths there would be very little "meat" left around the axle wouldn't there? I have never seen any nut that was not 1 and 7/8ths in 40 years! but never say never!!

By the way 48mm will also fit OK

I just measured an axle nut. It measures 1.867. 1.875 is 1 7/8 inch. I posted on another thread 1 5/16 that is the crankshaft bolt. Sorry for the confusion. I took a photo of the vernier and the nut, but can't locate my download cable. If I find the cable, I will post the photo.

It should be 1 7/8". However, all the new ones being sold are 1 3/4" - I sent that size of nut back to more than one mg specialist I purchased them from.

I recently replaced a TRE and found the nut securing the pin was appreciably bigger than the std 9/16"...
