MG Midget and Sprite Technical - rear spring
I have a round wheel arch midget and have fitted AHA8093 rear springs with 185/60X13 Yoko Inters. But the ride height is too high. the front is ok. Any ideas? |

In far too little time you will be posting that your ride height is too low. Finding new springs that hold their set is quite the challenge these days. David "mr pessimist" Lieb |

If it is *far* too high you may have the rear shackle angled the wrong way. I seem to remember its possible to assemble with the angle of the shackle wrong (angled towards the front) which gives too much ride height. They should angle to the rear (i.e. fixed mount in front of the spring) http://www.eatworms.org.uk/album/album2.php?album=RC40&mode=page&index=2 if its slightly too high than just wait a few weeks they'll have settled to "knackered" before you blink. |

You CAN slice the vertical section off the front bracket (bolts up to the floorpan) and splice an inch or so ito it to lower the ride height. I'm told that it makes a better solution than adding spring spacers due to better geometric qualities (?), the reduction in tramp and it gives "anti squat" capabilities. [Whatever that is!] |

Rob, this is NOT a 'fix' to be recommended unless you are going to reduce the shackle length at the other end by the same amount. This method of lowering upsets the geometry of the rear springs. Lowering blocks will give you a better result. Mark. |

I would run the car for a few hundred miles to see how they settle, this is a common problem with new springs and you may find one spring settles lower than the other, look up the thread 'Spring is round the corner' for comments about the quality of replacement springs on the market today |
