MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rear wheel cylinders
My modsports has a Frog / Midge Mk1 axle in it; are the wheel cylinders 7/8" or 13/16"? I'm having a bit of difficulty identifying some rebuild kits that I've been offered... |

Dave Has it got sliding or fixed wheel cylinders? The frog sliding ones are 3/4 and 7/8. If its the later midget fixed cylinder standard is 3/4 I believe, but others fit. I used Cooper S in my modsport axle |

Thanks Bob, visually they're the Morris Minor type - I guess they slide. Nothing like the double-piston later ones which is all I've ever used, hence my lack of knowledge on this early stuff. |

Dave The bore of the master tends to govern the size of the rear cylinder. If you are using the original frogeye master then the 7/8 cylinder is the norm. I guess as its modsports its got discs and a different master in which case the 3/4" cylinders would be better. They were fitted to later Morris Minor with the 1098 engine so post '63. |

Yes Bob, split system front and rear. Both m/cyls are 5/8". Quarter elliptic axle modded for twin trailing links, coilovers and Panhard rod but the backplates hubs and slaves etc all 'look' standard. I suppose I'd better take one apart and measure it before buying new seal kits. And may change them completely on a recommendation from those that know what they're doing! |
