Hi,
Do you mean, besides the Haynes and the Bentley MG Midget manuals? Those are the vital starting point for owning one of these cars. Next is Tuning the A-Series Engine by David Vizard, and Mini Expert by Keith Calver, which can be ordered here..

http://www.calverst.com/

and Linsey Porter's "Mini Restoration Guide"

Even though Keith and Linsey are writing about minis, the engines are the same, and because the mini A-series was in production until 2000, there is a wealth of updated knowledge for our engine from them (although there are some things different with the later, A+ engine, a great deal remains applicable.

hope this helps,

Paul, beside the books Norm mentioned you have to have the "How to powertune Midgets & Sprites" by Daniel Stapelton.
Loads of color pictures of possible modifications/improvements on engines, transmissions, suspensions and so on.

Very inspiring and therefore higly recommendable!!!

as above.
But remember the BIG problem associated with "rebuilds over the winter"... you'll not be able to take a drive on those fantastic frosty mornings!!

still there's always the year after!
David Cox

I always try to explain to people that the cost of engine rebuilding is mostly in the parts and the machining. Thus doing the work of assembling yourself saves very little and more times than not costs you money over taking your old engine to a reputable tuner.
However some people simply enjoy the doing!!
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Paul, David and Bob(R) have a serious point there!
Check the time its gonna cost against the extra expence.
Surly there is still enough to do for you with the engine out.

Whatever you do make sure the runs again before midget50 festival next year june!!!

Ultimate Mini Builder "1380 A Series"

http://www.drivenandridden.co.uk/store/ULTIMATE_MINI_BUILDER_DVD_1380_A-SERIES.html

Worth a watch if you're new to it. Just the fact of watching how an experienced bloke approach it is quite helpful. Which bits are science and which are more gut judgment and common sense.

Remember they're A Series engines.....not Saturn V ;-)
Dean Smith ('73 RWA)

You can always buy Prop's new DVD at blackwholemidget darn com Lol
Phil Burke

thanks folks, i'll take it all on board
