MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Recomendations on rustproofing products

I've currently got my Frogeye in the bodyshop for a steel bonnet repair and some paintwork. When it comes back, hopefully before it gets wet, I'm going to rustproof the front inside bonnet area, where its not protected by the inner wings. Any suggestions as to which product to use? ie Is Waxoil the best choice? Any other tips would be useful.

John. Waxoyl is good and there is another product that I can't remember the name of, but they usually take a full page ad. in Practical Classics and they reckon their product is better than Waxoyl.(Well they would wouldn't they?). I suppose you could go to W.H.Smith's and browse a copy if you don't want to buy the mag.

Back before terrorism reared its ugly head, I
"smuggled" Waxoyl from the UK to the US on an
American flight. Pasted UK flag decals over all
the places the can said "flammable." Could not do
that today.

It has been protecting my '72 for all these years.
I pumped into all sorts of places after drilling
access holes in boxed areas. I really love
WaxOyl.

Some of us prefer Dinitrol 3125. It is similar to Waxoyl but is more "oily" so it creeps better. You can buy it from Frost.co.uk or from Rust.co.uk. You do need an air compressor and Schutz gun to spray it properly, as you do with Waxoyl. All these products need to be used warm, so if the weather isn't hot, you have to stand the container in a bucket of hot water. My experience of Waxoyl is that it can solidify before it has had the chance to creep if you live in a cool part of the world as we do over here in the UK.

Moss do, or did a product called Supertrol 001, really good stuff, comes in an aerosol. It really penetrates into cracks etc. It's great for getting into difficult areas. Not many people seem to know about it, but I've used it for years and can fully recommend it.

I've heard a lot of people swear by the Bilt Hamber range of products lately. Worth looking at, perhaps.

My Frogeye is protected in those areas by what looks like 25 coats of Dulux applied thirty years ago, and it's still sticking!

Thanks for your suggestions, guess I'd better get my overalls on!!

Waxoyl has been in my car for years. I would definately use it again. Heat it up in a double boiler and put newspaper under the car. It will drip for a while.

Many years ago I applied Waxoyl to our midget, but did so during the heat of summer. The car was allowed to sit in the warm sun for a few hours to warm the sheet metal while I prepared the product. Instructions will tell you that you can liquefy this product by placing the container in a bath of hot water, but it will not flow very far when it hits cold metal this time of year. My advice would be if you must use Waxoyl now either select a very warm day, or a heated garage.

I always found best results came from thinning down the waxoyl with white spirit and spraying it with their pressure can thingy or a parrafin gun, if you have a compressor. Getting it stinking hot also works though

Try this from Bilt Hamber

I have used it a few times, thought to be honestm, have never had a car long enough to see if it will last the long term - take their test info as you will.
