MG Midget and Sprite Technical - removing stainless steel oversills

is this a particularly difficult task (assuming there is more than rust beneath them)?

Took some off a BGT once, think they were just held on with pop rivets.

Luckily, all was solid underneath!

Mothy,
Screws along the sill plate (visable) and more along the sill lip, mine were also stuck with sealant. Can hide some bad rot undeneath. Good Luck!

Had some on my 1500 midget when I bought it - just held on with pop rivets. They are a terrible rust trap though as I found to my horror, especially around the drill holes (as you'd expect I suppose).

Anyone want a pair of stainless steel oversills? - Free! - Anyone?

Hmmm, so the consensus is removal easy, their existence in the first place is the real problem (as I suspected)

:-D

Yeah, one of my future tasks is to pull the stainless sill covers that the PO put on my car, see "what lies beneath," deal with it, and then have the sills sprayed black to match the rest of my car, replacing the missing MIDGET letters in the process.

I've been reluctant to remove them so far, fearing that "there be dragons" that might cost too much to vanquish... at present, anyway.

That said, my covers are tucked under a piece of trim along the top, and are pop-riveted under the sills. They shouldn't be difficult to remove. Years ago, I ran some silicone caulk along the top edge and front and back ends, in an attempt to prevent water ingress. I left the bottoms open.

And actually, back when I stripped my interior and replaced the carpets, I gave the inner sills a pretty good look with a flashlight through the access holes; and later Waxoyled them; and saw nothing ominous.

Gryf, it's what you can't see that will bite you in the end in more ways than one! Hope there isn't anything bad hidden just a DPO who thought they would look cool!
