MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Replacement vin plates
My original plate in the engine bay has been damaged and the number isn’t clear. I know blanks are available cheaply, but getting them stamped seems a bit pricey. The cheapest being some one on eBay for around £28. The diy stamping kits are only a little bit more than that. Any recommendations please ? |

Just do it yourself if you can get a set of stamps. I’m not sure about the later cars but the early ones were just standard stamped from the top so no special reverse stamps needed. I did mine a few years ago and it turned out ok. Don’t worry about getting it perfect, some of the originals were all over the place! |

Minimail supply stamped VIN plates, note the paperwork you have to supply: https://www.minimail.co.uk/chassis-vin-plates/ Double check Terry Horler's 'Orginal Sprite & midget' to make sure they have the suitable style, but I think they should have what you need as Minis were made from 1959 onwards as Austins (as well as Morrises) and all through the BMC/BLMC/BL period that Spridgets were. Keep your old plate in a safe place, and a picture of the plate before removal and your receipt for the new stamped plate. Just in case you ever need to explain this to DVLA at a later stage. Or for those concorse enthusiasts! Cheers Mike |

this is another matter where Gordon at Classic Revival comes up trumps. He did one for me a few years back, very reasonably priced. |

You can't explain anything to some (many/most?) concours judges in particular, but if you want to get them going call them concourse. :) |

Thanks for the replies, £25 seems to be the going rate |
