MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Replacing wax stat jets
Hi all , id like to replace my wax stat jets on 1500 midget . Could anybody explain to me in simple terms how i get the wax stat jets off the carbs and refit the new jets ? thanks |

im sure someone will correct me if i am wrong but its pretty easy (although my carbs are off the car)... unscrew little screw that holds choke mechanism to jet, unscrew pipe from fuel bowl thingy (i forget its real name), catch petrol that pisses out with a rag. Reverse process to fit new jets. Done. Malcolm |

You need altered choke linkage rods as well since they are different between the two jet types. |

Are you trying to replace them with another pair of waxstat jets or non waxstat jets? I did a 4p conversion on mine years ago were by you replace the waxstat module with 2 x 1p coins hence 4p conversion. This effectively turns waxstat jets into non waxstat jets. I’m sure someone will tell me there’s a better way to do this but it works on mine. Bob |

Bob , ive seen this 4 pence conversion on another site . Thats what i intend to do . A lot cheaper than buying non waxstat jets ! |

Is there some disadvantage in having waxstat jets? Dave |

I think the issue is that they work 'too well' and in the hot Midget engine bay they over compensate and weaken the mixture far too much causing rough running. Might want a second oppinion on that... cheers, Malcolm |
