MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Restoring colour on seats
Plenty of sell on the web for this, but would care to understand any methods employed by folk who have had sucess as regards restoring the colour to seats. Certainly not originals - bucket style racing seats - and not even sure whether they are vinyl or leather - my guess on the former - but essentially one is far better than the other. This one has faded, and is far paler, with a sort of haziness to the worst areas. Integrity appears sound though with no cracks or splits. Tried some blue shoe polish which helped a little, but still some way off the other which is in decent condition. Colour is navy blue. |

I've used products from www.furnitureclinic.co.uk. Changed some MX5 seats from light brown to black for my Sprite, and some Morgan seats from ivory to black. Also restored an extremely tatty Moto Lita steering wheel.
The kit works very well, a testament to the finish is provided by the fact that the Miata seats were submerged in the floods here two years ago, only three weeks after I'd done them, after drying them out they were pretty much unaffected - more than can be said for the rest of the car; engine and gearbox full of water. The front of the MX5 seats are leather but the backs are vinyl, I think the kit works best on leather which is what it's designed for but the backs are still black. |
