Another whimisical thought...Quite like the look of the earlier midgets - the vertical flutes of the front grille, the chrome strips for the side and bonnet, single rear bumper, judicious use of badges etc.

Just thinking of adapting my 73RWA to look similar with the additional bits. Grille seems easy enough - though pricey, rear bumper I can live with the original, but for the chrome strips, I do not want to start drilling into the bodywork. Strong double sided tape??? I have also seen plastic chrome self adhesive strips which look remarkably similar - used for kitchens etc. or are these simply too naff....

Anyone done similar, and would I be heading too far towards the rocky shores of Halford's taste emporium if I plotted this course?

for what it's worth - I think it's the lovely full width bumpers and full overriders that give the period look (along with steel wheels with chrome hub caps) but they are expensive especially good ones

I converted my previous Spridget from square to full width round bumpers, Rostyles to hub caps and black MG grille to AH grille

the side strips and especially the spike down the bonnet seem a bit ott depending on the car's colour

again depending on the car's colour personally I think the full flute grille can look too heavy on the Midget

have you seen the Ashley Hinton alternative grilles -

look out for the Midget/Frogeye Spyder in December's Mascot. Some will like it and some won't. I love it.

Yes, period wheels or wires hideously expensive - and take your point on the bumpers. Seen various honeycomb grilles - I think I like them, but mine is all silver - albeit the correct 73 style grille - which I feel improves matters.

Mark,
I actually like the '73 style MG grille, again the colour of the car determines the colour of the grille

the dull bumpers on my previous Spridget were original ones from another car but were replaced by a subsequent owner with nasty shiny razor sharp new ones which are even worse fitting now it seems
