MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Ring gear orientation
Hi chaps I know this has been discussed before, but humour me. On a 1275 which way does the ring gear fit. Teeth bevel to the front of engine or back? Thanks Tim |

Just checked the ring gear i have. Neither side of the teeth have bevels! I also noticed that the teeth do not extend for the full width of the ring gear. Is the correct? Tim |

Tim, Have a look at the inside of the ring gear as on my 948 flywheel it had a step and a matching one on the flywheel. I don't know if the 1275 is the same. |

"the teeth do not extend for the full width of the ring gear." Correct if a 1275. |

Just got call from the machine shop asking which way the ring gear should be oriented. Thought the answer was in this thread that I started but it isn't. Can you guys help? The ring gear teeth have no bevels so that doesnt help. However the teeth extend only 2/3rds of the way across the outer surface of the ring gear. So the question is should the edge without teeth face the front or back out the car? Thanks fit any help Cheers Tim |

The step should face to the back of the car. When the gear is fitted the front of the flywheel (non clutch surface side) will be flush with the teeth. |

Stick 'MG midget Flywheel' in on a Google images search and I think you will be able to make it out on one of the pics. |
