MG Midget and Sprite Technical - rotor arms failing
My standard 1275 midget kills rotor arms !After a couple of hundred miles the car dies & cause is a defective rotor arm . Testing shows current tracking down through the arm . A new arm cures the problem every time . Ive used different sources for the new arms but it still happens . Any ideas ??? |

Yes, contact Advanced Distributors and get two of their new high quality rotors shipped over to you. http://www.advanceddistributors.com/ Jeff has an improved material and design for the rotors that eliminates the carbon tracking and poor connections.

There are a lot of cheap spurious rotor arms around - I buy from The Electrical Parts Co Ltd from Tenbury wells at 01584 811118 / website www.theelectricalpartscompanyltd.com who supply rotor arms / points / condensers to Lucas quality - I have not had a problem since fitting them |

I had same problem when I opened plug gap to 35-40 thou as suggested to use with ignitor. Rotor arm should last longer with 25-30 thou max. A |

'Standard' rotor arms made today are made of a mix that, apparantly, is more conductive than of old. That combined with a longer rivet causes a short between the end of the rivet and the dizzy spindle. Aldon Automotive or Distributor Doctor sell rotors that are supposed to eliminate the problem. depending upon what type of electronic ignition you fit then a rotor arm will still be required unless going to mega jolt or similar. |

see: http://www.123ignition.nl/brand/MG.html This 123 ignition (€299,- it is Dutch) cured the rotor problem and all my other ignition problems. Flip |
