MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rummble/Vibration
I have 76, 1500 midget. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt 2 1/2 years ago. A rummbling vibration sound has recently ocurred. It appears or is more noticeable in 4th gear between 30 - 40 mph under load. If you ease off or accellerate it tends to go. Recently I have noticed that when changing down, the car/engine feels 'juddery' The noise sounds like it's coming from underneath, midway along the car. Any clues? |

Sounds like prop shaft UJ. Drop the shaft out, if its knackered it will be quite obvious. |

I'm with Mr. Fowler, but you'll want to check the forward engine mounts as well. They're not all that strong in the 1500 - I had one collapse once, allowing the engine to sag against the steel part of the RH mount and send a very noticeable rumble and shudder through the car. Best of luck, -:G:- |
