MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Side Lights
I have a fault on my front and rear side lights/riding lights. When I move the switch to first position they do not operate. When the rocker switch is moved to second position they come on with the dipped beam headlights. Then when I move the switch back to the first position the riding lights stay on! Based on the fact they do actually turn on I assume the switch itself needs replacing. Can anyone offer advice on the solution. Many thanks. Andy |

I'd disconnect the switch and buzz it through with a multimeter. Sounds like either the contacts in it are worn / dirty, or it's mechanically broken. ant |

Andy, I have had this problem - mine would not come on unless you turned them on and off a couple of times quickly. I removed the switch (noting wiring positions) the inner switch bit is pushed into the outer sleeve - the bit you see on the fascia. I prised it apart, the rocker moves a metal plate over the contacts, mine had a lot of dried dirty grease substance that was stopping the contacts. Once cleaned out and reassembled it worked O.K - i was not sure of what grease to use - so i used a little silcon stuff i had to hand - perhaps someone can advise what should be used. I have bought a new one just in case it goes again ! Richard. |
