MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Spitfire disc convertion

I have read on this forum of someone called Shaun who has manufactured a run of spacers for the above conversion. Do anyone have a contact for him. Thanks.
Slowly

That will be Shaun in Norfolk who did it from my diagrams.
I'll drop him a mail & tell him your looking for some.

cheers
Brad

Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

Thanks Brad.Your name was on the previous thread so that will be the correct Shaun then.
Slowly

Hi Slowly where abouts in NI are you i have a couple made from Brad's diagram for my own car.

does anyone have a drawing they wish to share?
d cusworth

For a pint of beer?
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

Brad,

that seems fair - when are you coming round to my local? ;')

are you at silverstone?
d cusworth

Thanks for the offer but i won't be at silverstone, maybe Le Mans though.

Here's the diagram for those interested, there is a bit of work invloved to the disc & a 1/8" spacer is required on the steering arm, along with longer steering arm bolts.

Any donations towards my supercharger fund gratefully recieved!

Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

Thanks for the diagram Brad, but if Shaun has some I would also be interested in talking to him. I find it hard to get a machinist to do these small jobs at a sensable cost.

Gary, I am in Greyabbey on the Ards pennisula.

Just picked up the thread, I have found a new machine shop and will get a cost on Monday for you.

Feel free to drop me a line shaun at spridgets dot co dot uk.

These are made from Brads drawings so feel free to help fund his supercharger fund as he's feeling the pressure with my K just round the corner

Shaun,
would that be the 2014 corner?
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

I will be in touch Shaun, but i could help Brad with this pressure, all he needs to do is buy my virtually complete Zetec midget! However it appears to be even slower in the build tha what you have!
Slowly

Taster photos. Now virtually complete.
Slowly

Zetec midget, any photos?
I would be interested but am after a Massey next, it'll be usefull to pull all those K's out of the ditch with.
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

Don't do it, not a Massey!
These photos are over a year old, car now on its wheels and fully panelled.

*****Reviving thread*****

hi
im in the process of this modification and have a couple of questions.

Using Brads drawing (thanks Brad) there are 4 holes, I presume they are plain, which are on the same PCD as the hub - therefore the spitfire disc will need drilling to the midget pcd? If so, thw whole thing will be held together with bolts and hex nuts. i have seen other adaptor with 8 x tapped holes..

I'm making my adaptor in steel (i have steel in stock) but i presume others are made in ali?

apart from the new bolt holes in the spit disc, is there anything else that needs turning on the lathe?

thanks
all
d cusworth

Steel..

thats gonna be a few poinds of wieght...im guessing 10 to 15 pounds each

I dont think the spit disk gets modded,(new holes drilled) Im doing the conversion myself..(eventually)

I think thats part of the reson for the adaptor...I havent gotten the spit disc or the pads yet to complete the kit.

btw Im using the pads, made for the MGB GT V8, on my MGB calipers as it will give you an extra 20% of brake pad surface. over the standard MGB pads..it requires a small filing off of one corner edge of the pad, about 20 seconds worth of time...thats my understanding from what ive read, Ill find out this winter

I tapped the discs, you will also need to put a chamfer on the disc inside edge. Also it would be a good idea to check the disc OD, some discs are a little over 9" which can cause problems with contacting the TRE.

brad, is there enough meat in the disc to tap? the lathe & discs are 20 miles away from the car and me. how big is the chamfer? is it to clear the calliper?
d cusworth

There is enough to tap, i used longer bolts & a nut on the back as well.
The 45 degree chamfer is to clear the TRE, check out one of my previous threads 'drilling a steering arm'. The steering arm spacer works though its not very elegant, i really should redesign the steering arm with a built in spacer & a curve to solve the problem of getting the tracking adjustment right afterwards.
Brad 1380

cool.

Thanks i'll look up your post.

I cant find it - what year?(i must be thick)
d cusworth

I think it was in the general section, rather than the technical.
Do you want to drop me an email re-the steering arms?
