MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Splash shields - again
I'm still at the planning stage for an engine bay tidy up. I can't believe that Moss and MGOC want £35+ per side for the splash shields. Has anyone fabricated their own splash shields? Anyone with a plan available? Cheers Ant |

What is a splash shield? |
Trevor-Jessie |
Trevor-Jessie I think it is one of those metal things some of us dont use and the absence of which contributes significantly to my engine not getting too hot in high temperature times any help? Ant Why do you want them? and if you do why not wait until you are ready for them, measure up the available space and hack them out of the side of the next abandoned washing machine you see in a ditch or on the local recreation ground £35 for them blimey, I'm staggered |

Ah.... the "inner fender" in 'murican anglish. They do help keep the engine bay tidy and dents out of the wing. |

Hey Ant, You need to watch my post on the general side (New engine bay...blah, blah) something like that)...LOL., Im currently "Nice-a-fying" my engine bay, hopefully have it done today with before and after pics. prop |

trevorJ I dont think it is the inner fender I have those I think he means the splash shields that run from by the rad towards the inner fenders or maybe not? |
Bill |
oh OK |
Trevor-Jessie |
Yeah, he means those annoying things which I am tempted to rip out when I take my engine out. They are a pain in the ar*e. |

Bill, if you don't have a splash shield on the nearside, to what or where have you fixed the radiator expansion tank? Just curious. Chris |

Ant, blatant plug here, but i have one as new, listed on ebay, item number 360104701779 a lot cheaper than £35! John |

Ant, I am getting some made up in Stainless Steel! I think they will look good and last? Regards, Howie |

Hi, does anyone know of any full wheelarch splash guards like the MGB ones made from ABS for the midget? Thanks Jeremy |

Jeremy, I asked this question whilst at MG Hive the other week evidently they do not made Flexi - Wings for the Midget. Regards, Howie |

Like you, Ant, I couldn't believe the cost so used the old rusting to bits one as a pattern and bashed a new one. Took about half a day. When it's painted black and burried down in the engine bay it doesn't need to be perfect. I've made a pair of wheelarch splashguard things out of some 2mm PVC sheet that we had lying around, trimmed to shape and bolted inside the inner wing and at the return on the bottom of the outer wing. I'll try and get a photo next time I'm at the garage. Only took a couple of hours. |

I was referring to the ones bolted to the rad brackets. I guess I'll find out exactly what state mine are in when they're removed. The O/S one has rusted through above the big hole where the air hose passes through. N/S doesn't look too bad but it's hard to see properly before I demolish it. Ant |

They are easy to make with snips, hammer and vice. And you can use a piece of galv as they don't weld to anything, just bolt in. |

Thanks Howie, Prop and Mark, not seen them any where but will check out that site. Jeremy |
