MG Midget and Sprite Technical - SQUEAL help
Hello Folks Need a little help with a squeal. It does not start untill about 5 miles on the road. If the motor is under throttle it is fine but as soon as I let off the gas I get this really high pitch squeal. As soon as I give it some gas and get the RPM's up it stops. Then let off or hit idling speed and it is back. Thought it was the fan belt, but it seams to be coming from the back of the motor. Any advice would be great Thanks Jason 1971 MG midget 1275 |

Could I just be the first to say that that'll be the condenser. Failing that, if you think it sounds fan-belt / driven ancillaries-related, slip the belt off and run for 5 minutes without belt, pulleys, water pump and dynamo / alt. If the squeal is still there, you'll know what it's not. |

Leak into inlet manifold? Prop-shaft UJ? A |

Hm... so it only happens on the overrun then. Clutch or transmission, perhaps? -:G:- |

Took the midget to local shop and it is the gasket for the air intake manafold. He spraied some carb cleaner on it and that was the issue. A leak, so new one on it's way. Thanks |

Ahhh, vacuum leak. If you had said it sounded like a G-note then we would have pegged it immediately. ;) |
