MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Stalled project.
Towards the end of the summer last year I started work rebuilding the engine on my MG midget. One house move, major flood and a freezing winter later the project has stalled. I have promised myself that as soon as the spring arrives I will get things going again. My question is, will the partially rebuilt engine still be ok after 3 month sat parially completed in my garage. Its completed from the front back to the clutch which needs aligning. Everything was oiled with assembly lub where required and covered with an oily rag and an old coat. Any surface rust I can see can be dealt with its whats hidden inside that concerns me. Thanks in advance Tim |

I'd expect it to be fine, certainly the closed bearing surfaces won't have suffered in that time. If the head's off you can see if the bores are affected, and I'd expect the inside of the sump and block to be in the same state as the bores. If the head's on, then maybe whip the sump off and check... |

Tim, like David, I would think unless anything really dusty has been nearby, the engine should be fine. I would be inclined to give it a very good clean where you can and continue where you left off. Be sure that ALL bots that you fitted previously were actually tightened at the time.... Sleepless nights are made of things like that.... lol Mark. |

If it helps, I recently openend an ital A+ that had been left untouched from the day it was removed in '91. All the bearing surfaces were spotless. |
