MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Starter Motor Removal
Hi, I am helping my son replace the starter motor on is 1969 1275 midget. We have taken it off the engine, but can’t get it out of the engine bay. What are we doing wrong? We have the alternator out, surely I don’t need to take out the distributor and/or the steering column as well? All help/ideas gratefully received … I am at my wits end!! |

Whip out the distributor, Haynes also suggests this. |

Yep...distributor every time. If you're running points then sort them at the same time... |

Thank you both. Sorted! Thank you for such prompt replies. |

Its also possible to remove the starter motor through the triangular inner wing cut-outs. But they are quite heavy to manoeuvre out like that with one hand. Dizzy removal, if you mark its position accurately first, is easier. |
