MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Steering Column 76 Midget
Progressing with the assembly of my 76 midget (that I did not take apart!). The 3 bolts (?) holding my steering column to the firewall are not there and I noticed that they go through what looks like Zinc inserts? Attached is a pic. The slot on the Zinc inserts is the same size as a 5/16 nut. What type of bolt/washer set up should I use. Does it matter?? Thanks .....AL

Use a bolt the same size as the hole in the steering column bracket, 3/8" I believe, along with a flat washer, lock washer and nut. The zinc inserts are there to allow the column to compress in event of an accident. Check, if I remember correctly one bolt is slightly longer than the other two. |
