MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Steering Rack Oil Gun recommendations

Can anyone recommend an oil gun for filling the steering rack?

I have tried using a grease gun, but the oil just comes out of every hole expect the right one!

Thanks

I've got one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/312770866591 and the oil pretty much goes where it's supposed to.

Tim, this is the gun that I use; inherited from grandfather!

I presume you've tried your local motor factors. If they can't help, you could try ebay:

I hope your hunt is successful.

Not the best suggestion, but if you are stuck and you are replacing the steering rack gaiters, you can unscrew the steering rack ‘grease’ nipple to check to see and make sure that it and the hole it sits in are not gummed up with old grease incorrectly used by previous owners (which could make your existing oil filled gun ineffective). Then top up with a normal long spouted oil can - such as https://www.toolstation.com/oil-can/p82913 - filled with EP90 including via the end of each new gaiter (having tie wrapped the inner end of each gaiter) and then tie wrap the small end of the gaiter near the track rod end.

Best to buy a proper gun as Colin suggests to do this and for subsequent top ups.

Someone should be on in a minute to ask about age of your car and later racks and switch to use of grease.

I have exactly the same gun as Colin's, and it is useless for oil. So I got a new gun specifically for oil. Better, but still slowly dribbles while stored, and very messy to fill.

Try a ‘Wanner’ gun - will do grease and oil.
Plenty second hand on E bay.

Another vote for a Wanner. Was a good investment

Thanks everyone.

Car is 1962 Mk1 midget, so should have oil....

I see lots of Wanner grease guns on ebay, can you confirm they will handle oil ?

I got hold of a 2nd hand Wanner gun on eBay. Cleaned it out, filled with some 20w-50 for testing. Works just fine.

Then I got carried away, realising that there was no nipple at the end of the column, so removed the end cap from my old rack, drilled out the centre, fitted the nipple from a track rod end.
