MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Steering shear pins
I have a 76 midget. I think I have commite ted a cardinal sin. The steering wheel was not straight, ie spokes horizontal. So I thoght I would take off the steering wheel & put it back straight. I looked in the archives & followed a procedure which involved a hammer. The steering column moves about 20mm or so. Further viewing of the archives suggest I have busted the plastic shear pins. How or who could rectify this for me. I live near Brighton, East Sussex. Cheers |

Drill them out & use nylon set screws, mine melted when I had the colum powder coated, this is how I got round the problem! Best Regards, Howie. |

nylon bolts like they use for number plates, or plastic sprue from an Airfix kit, plastic knitting needle, etc - think lateral ! |

So long as they are plastic they will shear as intended if needed. If you replace with a steel pin then it's no longer collapsible! We have used epoxy glue to set into a plug, or drilled it and used a plastic knitting needle nicked when someone close wasn't watching |
