MG Midget and Sprite Technical - stupid question - brake line leeding
During the MOT, teh tester has discovered the rear left brake has got no efficiency. I have removed the drum, and saw a fluid leakage and a cylinder without mouvement. I have changed the wheel cylinder and bleed the brake line. Now I have a big difference between right and left, certainly the front brake. When i brake the car turns left, so the right wheel does not brake as the left one. Do I have to bleed the two front wheel or all the brake line? Befor the bleeding, I had no problem at the front. laurent |

I would never recommend changing only one wheel cylinder. Always do them as pairs. |

I cant remember what year and modle you have, before I revamped the brakes on my 71 midget USA spec. I had to do all 4 corners Id do both rear clyinders, otherwise your murphys law will take full effect. check and make sure the front caliper pistons are not sticking ...if there is brake fluid and air over a period of time, they can rust into postion....I know this from experiance. I've got a Midget MKI with 4 drums. It seems to be air in front right wheel. This is the one which was the most difficult to bleed. I will bleed again tomorow all around. laurent |

if one side has the brake shoes fitted correctly and the other incorrectly then one side will "self servo" and you will get this effect. Check that the brake shoes are fitted correctly on both sides. |

If I bleed one, I bleed all...fresh fluid all around with no contaminates. Works for me. |

Laurent I'm with Deborah & Prop If your brakes felt OK before you replaced the cylinder in the left rear and now it's pulling left under brakes the right rear is probably seized as well making the car swivel around the left rear, and pull left. Another problem "could be" that your new wheel cylinder might have a larger bore than the one you replaced making that brake more powerfull --Or as Will mentions you may have accidentally fitted the shoes around the wrong way and given yourself a grabbing brake as a result. Having air in the system shouldn't make your brakes pull to one side it'll just make the pedal feel soggy Cheers Willy |

I will order a second wheel cylinder to frogeyspares to be sure to the same. I noticed the piston is less large than the original, still on the right wheel. concerning the shoes, it is difficult to mistake when fitted, cause there is onli one piston, so the shoes are very differents and the is a mark which has aligned to be well fitted. So I thing I have well done this job. But I will check to be sure. laurent |
