MG Midget and Sprite Technical - SU Balance pipe

I'm running a 1500 midget with a Stage 2 head, K&Ns, LCB exhaust manifold etc., and it goes like the clappers!

I recently installed a catch tank, and so blanked off the pipes that the 'rocker cover oil vapour/vent hose' was connected to on the twin SUs. Then I thought about it a bit more, removed the blanks and connected a BALANCE PIPE linking the two carbs. Do I need this? I can't really tell if it's made any difference... !

Thanks

M Davies

It's not required because there is a balance chamber built into the manifold.

Just vent the rocker box to a catch tank.

Thank you for your very quick and definitive response!

The catch tank has already been installed - in accordance with your earlier advice - and with the 'Moss auxiliary cylinder head oil feed' pipe removed, oil consumption has dropped to almost nil (down from about a pint every 250 miles.)

I think the car is now ready for fine tuning on a rolling road. Any recommendations?

The only one down your way that I have personal good experience with is Tom Airey near Winchester.

May be a bit far for you, but there's Slark Engineering at Amesbury <http://www.slarkraceengineering.co.uk/contactus.htm>. They are A series specialists so I guess they may know about SUs and Triumph engines too. I haven't used them (yet) but if you do, I'd be interested to know how you get on.
