MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Sunbeam Alpine hub

Is it true that a Sunbeam Alpine splined hub can be bolted directly to the rear drum of a Bugeye to convert to wire wheels? Right now ,I have the wire wheel half shafts with splined hubs on my Bugeye but, as you know, the shaft is about 1/2 too short to fully engage the differential. That, and the 50 year old shafts concerns me now that I am putting in a 1275. Option #1 would be to but upgraded longer racing half shafts($500 US)and the Alpine splined shafts(200?) OR option #2 Get custom made longer racing shafts from Peter May that fully engage the diff and are race proven.Cost between these two choices is about the same even with shiping concidered.Any thoughts out there? Bob, don't know about the Alpine bolt pattern. Have you tried to find the narrow housing from a MKII Sprite or MKI midget? That would solve your problems and give you better tire clearance as well. I know they're on the rare side, but Joe Blackwood in Kearney MO might have one. He advertises a lot of parts on Craigslist locally. Here's a link to one of his ads running now for rear axles and differentials, might have what you need. No connection, just a fellow club member and good guy. http://kansascity.craigslist.org/pts/1854658544.html

I'd keep it as standard as possible and go for longer PM shafts
