MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Sunvisors anyone?

My midget came with sunvisors, fitted recently new by a previous owner. They rattled so I went & bought the correct springs and cup washers but found there's not enough thread when assembled to fit the retaining nuts. So I'm wondering if I have the wrong mounting brackets or am I just assembling them wrongly? Also, am I right in thinking the sunvisors fit with the cranked part ABOVE the bracket? This is different to how they came fitted but from pics I can find this looks more correct. Attached a pic of how I 'think' the parts fit together - nut & spring washer inside the counterbore? Couldn't find any info in my parts/workshop books.

Thanks in advance, Pete

Hi, Pete. Been there... there are two types of visors, and one has a longer threaded bit than the other. In my case (if I remember right...) I used a counterbore tool to deepen the recess in the bracket so the shorter stem would work with the visor set I purchased.

Be sure the rubber clips are in good shape, by the way. They keep the visor from swinging down into your line of sight.

And yes, the visor stems enter the brackets from above. As for the hardware, I've seen different nut/washer stackups depicted, but I inserted the cup washer first - with the cupped side down - then the spring, then the nut.

Best of luck,

Thanks for your reply Gryf - that confirms my thoughts that I might need to modify something...

I fitted a set of these to my car some years ago, if you want to see a reference, you are welcome to take a look at mine, I am in Brixworth, just to the north of Northampton town.

I can't remember having any trouble with fitting to my previous Spridget other than I wished I hadn't bothered buying and fitting them as they blocked very little sun but did block my view - however that might just have been for me in my postion in the car

Brackets machined & visors refitted correctly now thanks.
As Nigel comments, they're not particularly useful and just sit at an awkward angle if they're pivoted sideways. Still, they're were there anyway & it saves having extra messy holes in the frame!

when the roof is down they can provide a little extention to the wind screening

I'd forgotten when they are at the side they tilt down

you could always fill the holes with something like sealant that could easily be removed should you want to fit the visors again

I think they also cover the hood catches IIRC

but you might get so used to them it would seem odd if they weren't there any more, a little quirk of the car
