MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Synthetic Lubricants?
Recently purchased a '78 midget 1500. Trying to get up to speed quickly on the does & don'ts. Can pure synthetic lubricants be used in the engine, transmission & differential? I've been using pure synthetics in all my other vehicles since around 1994 with very good results. |

I think you will do better with the normal stuff, Im sure thats debateable. On the 1275s I want to say there was an issue with synthetic passing thur the scroll seal much easier. prop |

Yup, synthetic will leak out almost as fast as you pour it in! AndyB |

Thanks, will continue to use conventional lubes. |

I've used pure synthetics in an A-series engine, Spridget diff, gearbox and Ford type 9 box with no problems. It certainly does not leak out almost as fast as your pour it in. Why don't you try some and find out. |

I've heard (from a tuning specialist) that there must be zinc as an additive in the oil, for the cam and followers. Indeed I've seen followers wich where badly pitted after a short period. To be on the save side I've chosen to use Millers for my rebuid engine. Maybe it's different for a 1500... |
