MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Thank You -Yes You

I feel I have now got to a stage where I am (sort of) happy with my midge and would like to thank any one who has ever posted any thread or comment (good or bad)on this tech section, looking back I hadn't realised how helpful it has been until I started to think back how many issues bbs had helped me with,I used the archives for a long while, witch are a Godsend, before posting myself recentley.
First outing will be at the South Midlands Classic car meet at Becketts farm shop B47 6AJ on the 28th Dec(weather permitting),well worth a visit if you havent been, one or two spridges were there in the summer meet and was jammed with loads of interesting classics.

Keep up the good work!!

That looks nice. More photos please!

Looking at the state of your car I doubt any comment I've ever made on here will have been any help! In fact, looking at the state of my car, I know it!!
John Payne

Hi Rob,
That looks fantastic!Maybe see you on the 28th.
steve cowling

That looks great.
Gary Lazarus

Very nice looking car Rob. You have every reason to be quite proud of your accomplishment.
Bill Young

Very nice indeed! I sure wish we could paint our front plate onto the bonnet like that.

Look very, very nice!
Let us know how you get on with those Yokohama's on the winter roads?
Share the final spec of your car - engine, suspension mods, etc.

28th at Becketts Farm shop is definitely on as I supply them with Cornish pastys and I have just put the phone down from the Manager who has ordered a load of pastys and sausage rolls! He said he is expecting a big crowd as they have had lots of interest due to the sucsess of the last meet.
Would be good to see you there.

Rob

Are you replying to the post that I edited last night? ;o)

After posting it, I did some more research and found it. Prior to that, I could only find this page relating to the August and September meets...

I can tell you now these yokohama ao48 tyres are like slicks in the wet, when I first pulled away I couldnt stop the wheels spinning! Bring on the spring! If I had to tell you the spech of the car I would be here for a long time, so I will post you a picture of the front brakes to show Kad 4 pot callipers,Peter May negative camber trunion and lowered springs as a little teaser.

Rob, that is seriously nice. One of the great things about our bit of this hobby is the variety of takes on essentially the same car. Nice work!

Beautiful! Why doesn't mine look so good?!!!

Maybe I'll copy your no-front-bumper-and-added-lights look. Fantastic. . .

Congratulations!

Nice llok Rob and great work, I think however that my mate John Payne is being a little shy cos his cars are superb as well, makes me feel totally inadequate..
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

All has changed in the Payne garage I'm afraid Bob! The nice re-shelled midget has been replaced by an Elise for Mrs Payne and my hillclimb Sprite is stripped down to the bare shell to repair 5 years of abuse!!

Rob's second photo has inspired me to keep going out to that cold garage though - I am treating myself to some of those calipers for my birthday!
John Payne

Rob,
nice car, any chance of an engine picture & where did you get the bonnet bulge?
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

Wow!

I can only dream mine would look like that!

More pics please!

Brad
The bonnet bulge was first mocked up in a scrap bonnet I had given to me when I bought the car,I had to make sure the clearance was ok and more importantly it looked period and correct,I decided to go for the teardrop look.
It was then planished by hand and trial fitted several times, then sprayed by a friend of mine who is a lecturer at Sandwell college(student project).
So Iam afraid to say it is a one off and not something you can buy off the shelf.
Thanks for everyones comments, give yourself a well deserved pat on the back.

Rob Newt

How it used to look!!
