MG Midget and Sprite Technical - The Briton short shifter
Hi chaps I decided to order one of these, has anyone tried it? If not I'll let you know how it goes! http://www.thebriton.com/shifters.htm I'm planning to combine it with a metal surround / rubber gaitor from the earlier models / Sprite. Hoping this won't be a bad idea. I'm starting to lose some of the originality of my car now what with this and the chrome bumpers but I figure that as long as I like it and I stick to midget parts then who cares as long as it's improved! |

Just read the webpage - " The short throw shifter that I make gives you SO much more control over your gearbox." I always like the lightweight throw of the Spridget box. I'd have thought shortening the stick makes the change heavier, not more 'controlled'. I look forward to hearing what you think of it, but I don't see it appearing on my Xmas list. Malc |

Jamie, have you checked that the earlier metal surround lines up with your existing gear lever I tried the use of the metal surround as I prefer the look of it to the later rubber surround covered by vinyl gaiter on my type-9 conversion but I found even when I cut the metal surround I couldn't then find a rubber grommet to fit satisfactorily I expect a couple of posters might come along to tell you how you could have made your existing lever into a quickshift I've got a quickshift lever on my type-9 box but I wouldn't bother again as it beats the changes on the remote/g/box |

Seems a lot of money for taking a hacksaw to a standard gearstick and running a die down the remainder - did this myself on ours and the shorter shift is rather nice. |
