MG Midget and Sprite Technical - The Prince strikes again!
Yes, the prince of darkness never ceases to amaze and bewilder. I was driving home today when the engine died. I still had power, but, when I turned the switch off and back on again, I didn't hear that familiar clunk, clunk of the fuel pump. I sat there for a few minutes scratching my head and contemplating an aborted suicide attempt. I decided to turn on the ignition and sure enough the pump kicks in and I was on my way....for about a mile. Luckily, I was only a few miles from home and managed to get home that way. Let it cool and then drive on. The pump is fairly new, so I suspect a poor ground wire. Before I jack up the car I thought I would get a few ideas from you guys. So let's hear it mates. 1973 midget |

what kind of pump is it? |

I dont think you should hear the tic tic sound if you turn the car off and then turn it back on right away, because you have fuel pressure built up in the lines. But yes my guess is a bad ground. Or fuel vapor lock.... Prop |

New pumps aren't infallible, I had one occasion when a brand new pump hadn't been adjusted properly. It had done 80 miles when it died. 80 miles from home of course, late at night too. Got home 1/2 mile at a time, giving the pump the proverbial tap to kick it into filling the bowls till the next time. |
