MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Throttle Pedal: 1500 for earlier car

In order to get the full range of butterfly movement on my HIF44 it is apparent that the standard 1275-style organ pedal job won't do it. I need to get about 55mm "pull" and the standard pedal is much less. THe suggestion is to fit a 1500 pedal. Without having one to look at I am wondering how it achieves this. I would guess that either the arm to which the cable attaches is longer, or the angle between the foot pedal bit and that arm had been reduced so the pedal starts higher in the first place and rotates more before it hits the bulkhead.
The organ pedal attachment does seem to seriously reduce the range of movement. If the cable arm is longer that would mean repositioning the point where the cable goes through the tunnel and the heater blower would be in the way.

I can confirm that the cable stays in the same place, so that part of the pedal is the same length.

I think the extra reach comes from its mounting and the angle of the floor

Because the 1500 falls down it has more room to travel and the upward angle of the floor gives it more travel room

Where as.the organ peddle has a more.limited range because of.the shape of the floor and the angle at which the peddle can travel.

With my hiff I found I was struggling for both full throttle and found the pedal far too light.

Fortunately mine had a straight throttle crank and I simply re drilled a hole for the cable mount closer to the throttle spindle to fix both.

Can just be seen in that pic.

You can modify the throttle spindle cable guide on the MG Metro and later type of HIFs to give you a 'quicker' response and hence full travel.

You need to remove the cable guide/cam off the spindle, remove the two spot welded sides, re profile the 'cam' and then re attach ( I welded mine back on) the side guides.

I found the pedals to be a straight swap. I used a Mini throttle cable and a Morris Minor choke cable. The Spridget throttle cable won't fit on the HIF heat shield and standard choke cable is too short.

Mr Williams I have a 1500 pedal you can borrow to try if you want to give it a go.
I have one on my frog and from what I remember it was a straight swap.
Just let me know

Thanks for the information gentlemen. I have reduced the angle between the pedal section and the top arm to increase the "throw" at the expense of increased pedal movement. But by throwing away the organ pedal I think that should be ok.
