MG Midget and Sprite Technical - To reseal or not reseal...
Both NOS master cylinders needed topping up for the first time in 7 years. They were bought in the 90s and I've no idea how long the PO had them before that - so 7 years is good going I reckon. The clutch master is leaking from the cylinder itself as the clutch pedal is wet and the leak can be traced back to the cylinder itself. I've yet to find the brake leak if indeed there is one, may just have needed topping up but the search continues. So (hehe)the question is - are the repair kits worth the hassle or is it safer to replace with new cylinders? Are the replacement cylinders decent quality? |

You'll only know if it's worth it, when you open the masters and look at the bores. If the bores are good, the seals will work. My masters are as far as I know, the originals on my '66 Sprite. I've never changed them, that's for sure. But I have kitted both of them, and they work just fine. |

Thanks Lawrence, I'll order a seal kit and take it apart to see what condition it's in. Do you know where the circle or groove is as I don't seem able to find anything on the body? or maybe I've got an ungrooved version. |

The groove is quite obvious, if you have one.

Cheers Dave, will have a gander in the morning now I know what I'm looking for. |
