MG Midget and Sprite Technical - todays gas/mech fuel pump
Hello, is there anyone running a mechanical fuel pump at the engine and are they experiencing any problems with vapor lock in hot weather? I've got a 1275 with the hole for a mech pump on the engine and need to decide on an elec pump by the tank for a winter project,--thanks,--Bob C |

I had vapor lock, at slow traffic, here in Holland (max 28 degrees Celsius). So I changed to an electrical pump and re routed the fuel line. How is the wether and traffic speed in Kansas? Flip |

minis ran with mechanical fuel pumps on 1275 engines all of the way up until the early 1990s, so as long as the fuel line is routed wisely it ought to work just fine. But, then you won't get that charming little "tick, tick, tick" when you turn on the key that an SU makes! Norm |

Norm, I agree about the route of the fuel line but what was the boiling point of gasoline in the early 1990? now it is 40 degrees celsius for the lightest parts of the gasoline. Flip |

For what it's worth, my 1500 has the original-style mechanical pump, and I've re-routed the fuel hose to the carb so that it runs behind the heater box, and not right behind the head. I got the idea from one of the other 1500 guys in our club, Lee Fox, who routed a rubber fuel hose behind the battery. This arrangement does away with the original metal pipe behind the head that must surely pick up considerable heat. I know yours is a 1275, but the same theory applies. Cheers, -:G:- |
