MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Tonneau Covers
I have a tonneau cover for a MkII midget, however the zips are knackered. First question is does anyone know where replacement zips can be obtained. I don't want black plastic zips and prefer metal. Also has anyone altered their tonneau to fit around roll over bars? If so, how? Thanks, Neil |

Have you tried a haberdashery's shop - or - if not, try John Lewis .... |

I altered my tonneau to fit around my roll over bar. Basicly I made a cut from the side, at a square angle towards the front bar, circled around it and cut to the rear bar and circled that. Then I made some flaps with velcro to fasten it. I also sewed the edges with vinyl. I'll take a picture tomorrow (if I don't forget it) |

Thanks Alex. I appreciate it. To complicate matters I will also need to make some pockets to fit the headrests on my cobra seats. |

I had a new zip fitted to my tonneau at / by the local dry cleaners. |

Me too and they also put in a heavy duty patch where it was begining to tear behind the B post tenex fastener. |

You can get zips on ebay if you want to do it yourself. I did the same sort of cutout as Onno, but then I fitted a perspex deflector, and it was murder getting the tonneau between the deflector and the crossbar on the rollbar (which is there to get the harnesses at the right height) Ive now cut the tonneau so that it finishes snug against the wind deflector and the hood cover covers the other side. It wont be completely waterproof, but it covers the passenger area fine. My tonneau used to have pockets and I took the away !

I made changes to fit around the front bars of my rollover bar. Basically a cut to the bar, with a velcro flap over the cut. I also stitched in a vertical 'collar' that fastens tightly around the bar with a press stud. Never got round to doing the rear bars as they fitted through the existing zips, but some day I hope to give them a similar treatment although I would probably still use a zip. Just needs to be the type that fully disengages like on a coat, but chunkier. |

If you just looked at Alex's pictures and didn't read the words you'd think you'd landed on some bondage fetish site! Come to think of it S&M does sound familiar.......... |

Guys, this is great. Some good ideas to follow up. My Midget is a MkII and so there are some slight differences between the different designs but I am sure I will be able to work it out. Hey having worked out how to wire in an Emerald a tonneau has to be a snip!!!!! |
