MG Midget and Sprite Technical - track and trace tracker

What is the best place for the GPS antenna in a frogeye?

You'll probably be fine putting it anywhere you like. A customer of mine had a tracker fitted to his classic mini van and the installer ran the antenna along the bottom dash rail, it worked fine.

On a Mk4 I put it in the boot, attached to one of the cross braces. I would have thought it should work in a Frog boot too.

so it does not have to look in the open air?
Flip Brühl

The installer said it needed to "see sky" but worked fine where he installed it. I'd try it under the bottom edge of the dash or along the rear of the tub, should still see plenty of the satellites and also be hidden.

The device I used had a sim card in it and was set to text me if the car was started or moved. THe gps worked in the boot, in the garage. I guess gps sensors may vary in sensitivity. Easy enough to test whether it will work.
Graeme Williams

Thank you. I tried the device in the boot, without the external antennas. It works fine!

Do you have any details of the device you are using?

Same question to Graeme.

It is made in China, no brand name, easy to set up with a program (usb cable required) or sms codes, battery for 4-6 months, ac and 12 V adapter, in and external GPS and GSM antenna. cut off relay, a Geo Fence, a movement alarm, a tilt alarm. etc. What else would you like to know?

Dave: It was the TK103A gps tracker from Amazon. I see it's about £21 now. Just needs a GifGaf simcard fitted. I did a report in MASCOT July 2014

Dave,
To be precise: I once bought a tracker with a Chinese manual and Chinese software for the android. The apple store could not find software. My Chinese is not good.... A prepaid card is advisable. A battery adds safety. Do not connect the battery direct to the car battery but via the contact or fuel pump cable. If you use the car enough the battery will always be charged.
Flip Brühl

THe TK103A was straightforward to set up. It had a lot of features I didn't need and so didn't try. I was interested in it detecting whether the car had been started or moved. I did find I needed to set the "move" boundary at a 100 metres or so otherwise the slightest gps drift was detected as movement and I got a text from the car.
