MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Tran-X LSD Diff Noise Update
Have now changed the Castrol B373 90EP LSD oil back to the BMW LSD oil, which is Castrol SAF-XJ 75W/140. Nothing else done, just changed the oil, and all the clunking when hot has gone, and it is back to the odd click when manoeuvring. Contacted Tran-X before changing the oil and they said that they had now included Miller's 85W/140-GLS multigrade oil as an 'approved' oil, so the Castrol 75W/140 would be suitable as well. I also spoke to Dan, who I have been discussing the problem with, on the Tran-X stand at the NEC last weekend, and they are going to suggest changing to a multigrade oil to reduce noise. Looks like a good result?? Richard |

Cheers Richard, will try it when I get the car ready for next season. Is it available at most motor factor type places? John |

John, I haven't tried as I had 2.5lt from our local BMW dealer 5 years ago, and used most of what was left to do this last oil change. I buy other Castrol oils from Opie Oils, and they also do the Castrol SAF-XJ 75W/140 - this is their link: www.opieoils.co.uk Richard |
