MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Tuning a 1500 Midget

My 1500 midget had a Maniflow exhaust and manifold, KN filters and a Piper 270 camshaft.
I had a large valve fast road cylinder head fitted by Peter Burgess yesterday.
The car was making 66 bhp at the wheels on Peters rolling road dyno when it arrived.
After fitting the head and new carburettor needles the car now makes 90 bhp at the wheels (and it certainly goes like it now!!).
I plan to fit a a 123 distributor as Peter felt the car was under advanced at low revs and 12 degrees over advanced at the top end.
All in all a fantastic result and well worth the (very reasonable) cost.
After many disappointments with other tuners, I highly recommend Peter Burgess
Steve

nice to hear there actualy are some reliable/knowledgable people left in the classic car scene.
Congratulations Steve!

Although no experiences myself on the 123dis. ive heard mixed opinions about it.
Some praise it while others go back to original.
Probably a special job to set it up right to get it in perfect working order.
If Peter likes it he probably knows how to do it right.

Good fun Steve and let us know on the progres of your fastroad car!
Arie de Best

Nice result Steve, I hope you are enjoying all that torque! Works very well with an overdrive conversion.
Keep us informed.

Hi Aire
What negative things have you heard about the 123?
It seems an all round improvement, with vaccuum advance and 16 inbuilt advance curves to choose from.
Hi Carl
I would imagine an overdrive would work well as the car is pulling 4000 rpm at around 70 mph.
It pulls like a train in 4th gear now and gets "on the cam" from about 2500 upwards.
Steve Deakin

I know it does Steve as my engine has similar power to yours and I fitted the overdrive many years ago.

I am in Warwick if you ever want a chat although I am afraid the car doesn't look quite that good at the moment

Cheers Carl
