MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Twin webers on a series.. Looks peculiar to me
I didn't know that it even was possible to mount twin webers on an a-series and can't even see why you would want to unless you have the most tweaked big bore a-series ever.. But then I came across these, and googled it and apparently it's possible, any one done this and why? Cheers Alex |

That is not for an a-series with siameese head they look like they are for a 1500 to me Though a twin weber setup can be done on a A-series you Then only use one barrel per carb. this is usualy done to get the inlet as straight as possible. Only of use for the most tuned engine's in race classes that allow it |

Onno of course knows the story On a lot of race Minis (A Series) especially in the Mini miglia championship twin webers are used but only one barrel of each is operating Always seemed a total waste to me but I suppose if DV suggests a gain of 1 HP then they will believe it is worth it. :) |

Cant find any photos of a midget application but these for a Mini may help: http://www.atfreeforum.com/mk1mark/viewtopic.php?p=17854&sid=a0bd155b56bf21a93ab8332f25207ad2&mforum=mk 1mark Here is a video of split Webers on a Sprite: http://fooyoh.com/car_video/watch/KKxGdmu4vSo |

All-right thanks guys, strangely enough the owner of the manifolds claims that they are for and from a a-series mini although that don't seem to ad up with the how they're supposed to mount, judging from the holes so Onno's probably right. Doug, those carbs looks really weird with just one barrel each, hehe :) |

Even stranger looking are split Webers where the unused barrel of each carb has been machined off [to presumably save weight]. |

Id think for street use, it would be way over carbed... Im trying to think... but didnt the aluminum 7 port peirce head that has the built in intake manifolds into the head,,,, isnt that set up for duel webbers.... I cant remember if it was or not I do remember you can attach 2 SU HS4s to that set up |

functional or not twin webers do look cool and must sound great! |

The story behind the initial use of split Webers is interesting. As I heard it, back in the days of Minis in the Monte one of the attempts at rule changes to head off the flying bricks was that non-standard carburettors would be allowed provided they attached to the original manifold. So BMC developed a "BMC prototype carburettor" which consisted of a Weber plus adaptor, the assembly thus bolting directly to said original manifold as required. |

Arie Your scaring me arie... your not secretely looking at triumph tr's on ebay also are you??? If you ask Jesus what type of carbs he perfers,,, It would only be the SU's HAhaha Prop |

Paul, An interesting comment and it reminds me of a frogeye that came over to an international AH weekend I attended in the late 1980s. It was all original, rust free from dry southern Italy, except that it had been fitted with single choke side draught Webers that were a direct bolt on replacement for the 1 1/8" frogeye SU carbs. At that time apparently they were out of production and had been for some time but spares were available, I presume because the design used many parts from other carbs. |

C/T manifolds I don't think were about when the 1500 engine was being put into Midgets. The manifolds look to me like Ford 1500 Pre X/Flow for twin Webers. Buy if cheap and sell on accuratly described.. Mark |

I went back to twin SUs which help a little with the fuel economy, but not as much as I expected. http://www.spritespot.com/gallery/toomanyspridgets/robsdisc2_015 |
