MG Midget and Sprite Technical - type 9 gearbox removal
Hi all of you with a ford type 9 box on a 1275 midget. My speedo drive isnt working, the clutch release mechanism is casuing drag as revs drop by about 100 RPM when I put my foot on the clutch and the clutch release mechanism is making a right old racket at idle something is well loose inside plus third gear makes a rather curious noise. So all in all time for it to come out for some tlc My question is can I drop the rear gearbox carrier and slide it off rewards with the engine still in the car or is it easier (or the only way) to take the engine out too thanks Ben. |

No You need to either remove engine and gearbox together, (easiest) or remove the engine first, and then the gearbox. |

slacken the gearbox mount to save stressing it if lifting the engine out alone. |
