MG Midget and Sprite Technical - tyres

what do you guys think of these

http://link.marktplaats.nl/404811117, yokohama a-008, 175-50-13 legal.... any good?

A very good tyre, Dad has them in 10 inch size on his mini. however, 175/50-13 will look silly IMO as the tyre is small - lots of gap between the tyre and wheelarch and even less ground clearance, along with a lower top speed.

145/80/13 –
Rolling Radius: 176.62 cm
Total Diameter: 56.22 cm
Sidewall Height: 11.60 cm

175/50/13 -
Rolling Radius: 158.71 cm
Total Diameter: 50.52 cm
Sidewall Height: 8.75 cm !

Note: Changing your wheels/tyres will affect your speedometer reading - With this combination your speed will be 10.1% less than indicated (if it was ever accurate)

See - http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual-tyre-size-calculator

As said car will be about an inch or more lower to the ground and give more wheel arch clearance (quicker to accelerate)

The tyre having a lot less sidewall will probably make the ride feel more jarring and crash down potholes loosening your dental fillings – certainly an interesting ride

also from other thread they rear tyres may rub on leaf springs see - http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=thread&access=&subject=97&source=T&thread=2010121520355923590

I used to use the A008R in a 185-60/13 for autocrossing. Then Spec Racer Ford changed their spec tires and I couldn't get them any more. I loved the tire a lot more than I did the Advan A048R that replaced them. Per the calculator above, 1.5% difference on the speed vs the 145-80/13, no rubbing on an RWA midget or Bugeye unless cornering very hard without panhard. I had no issues with them rubbing on the leaf springs when running them on the 6" Vega GT wheels.
