MG Midget and Sprite Technical - tyres

at the moment I have the 69 midget fitted with 165/70/13 tyres but wish to change them to a more original looking size of 145s. would they need to be 145/80/13s .Dan

I think that's the original spec. What are your 165's like, and what are you going to do with them?
Lawrence Slater

If your 165/70x13 are on original width wheels your car is over tyred. Take them off immediatly and give them to Lawrence. LOL. 145/80x13 is the correct tyre for standard wheels.

the tyres are actually like new, but they are old, I think about 15 years old, just cheap unheard of brands, they do look a little wide on the rims so I thought id put some decent makes of the correct size as im hoping to get a bit more use this summer, give me a little more confidence that there not going to give up the ghost.

A popular brand is Uniroyal Rainmaster in that size, which I can thoroughly recommend.

I also vote you give them to Lawrence, it might take his mind off oil sucking.

Do a swap with Prop?

I've got some 145/80/13 tyres that look particularly slim and are good -
Michelin (Energy) EB3(1) - (145/80/13, 75T)

for alternatives see my thread on the Archives here from February last year when I asked for suggestions, titled 'tyres (what to buy) again'

Hi D. A. Hadaway, I have a set of 4 145 tyres in reasonable condition. You can pick them up in East London for £60 if you're interested.

ETA:
Dan,
it'll be like night and day swapping from 15 year old little used tyres to good quality new ones, they'll improve braking, steering, suspension, road holding and ride quality feel and noise

remember to take it easy on the new tyres for the first 100 miles or so (200 in rain) and to check your wheel nuts for tightness/torque after the first 30 miles or so
Nigel Atkins

Age is just a number, but I'm a sucker for brands, so I'll pass. LOL.

I've got 145's on my Midget -- they came with the car --, and it surprised me how well it tracks and holds the road.

thanks Nick but have now ordered some firestones, anybody fancy 4x tyres for a tenner,
