MG Midget and Sprite Technical - tyres - tubes or tubeless ?
hi all, I'm at the point where I need new tyres as I'm almost ready to book an mot :) I have these wheels: http://www.spiny.org/rr/midget/tyre01.jpg http://www.spiny.org/rr/midget/tyre02.jpg http://www.spiny.org/rr/midget/tyre03.jpg now, my dad claims that they have to have inner tubes fitted as the wheel is an unusual design, they do currently have tubes fitted. My question is - as he last changed the tyres about 30 years ago, has tyre technology moved on enough that I can get my local tyre place to fit a set of tubeless radials, or will I still need inner tubes fitted ? cheers, Phil :) |

I've never known early Rostyles to need tubes. |

I understand that rostyles in less than perfect condition will need tubes anyway, due to unevenness or corrosion where the tyre bead meets the rim causing an airleak with tubeless tyres. Dave |

the easyest way to know is ask the lokal tyre shop! i would only fit inner tubes with wire wheels (and new types of wires don't even need them anny more) if you rims are in bad shape and can't be run tubeless although designed for tubeless scrap them or have them fixed! a good set of wheels is not that expensive and the make the contatc to the road! no braking accelerating or steering without wheels and tyres!! |

I replaced 4 tyres due to slight cosmetic corrosion 2 were fine and 2 have tubes I fitted the tube tyres to the rear your tyre place will be able to help. Once your tyres are on it's really easy to rub down light surface rust and flaking paint. just respray with a rattle can will smarten them up for a few extra pounds. |
