MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Uprated 1275 Clutch
There is a three piece clutch kit, currently available on ebay, which is claimed to be uprated and able to cope with a 95bhp engine output The Taiwan made kit, Powertune PT HK9632, is available from various outlets in the US and possibly here, but no other supplier claims its 'uprated'. Anyone able to support this claim? |

Ray Davies of Moto-Build Racing has been racing Midgets and other MGs for years. If they say it's up to the job, you can believe them. |

motobuildracing is Darryl Davis, Rae's brother. ISTR they had a falling out many years ago and went in separate directions - I don't think their businesses are in any way connected these days? (unless you have recent experience to the contrary?) |

The part number on the clutch is HK9632, which in Google comes up as a standard Borg & Beck 1275 Midget clutch kit. From the picture there is only the part number on the cover and centre plate, no reference to B & B manufacture - leave to others to figure out if it is really an 'uprated' clutch kit?? |

The only thing i can see in the photo thats differant from the standard kits Ive purchased in the past are the... Fingers ... there fewer of them but each finger is much wider, that could be the upgrade, as id think that would provide a more stabil plateform for the carbon bushing to push agianst on ithe fingers pad Prop |

I can't believe it would be worthwhile tooling up for an 'uprated' clutch, considering how many units are likely to be sold. |

That cover looks identical to the heavy duty one I bought in the late 1980s for my 1420cc engine which does about 85bhp at the wheels. Maybe the same tooling being used from a time when there would have been more demand to justify it? |

Well whatever it is, and whether or not the bloke is related to Ray Davies, he doesn't answer ebay or email messages. And the telephone number given on his ebay contact details, doesn't work. I asked him about the release bearing he was supplying in the kit. I supplied a picture comparing the correct one and the current copy being sold by sussex and Moss, and asked him to confirm what he was selling. That was on 13-Mar-15. He replied with one line and said he would tell me on the Monday (16th March). That was the last/only time he replied. I've since sent him two more messages and both have been ignored, and the phone number given in his ebay ad, 02086471991 now responds as unobtainable. -- It worked before, just wasn't answered. I never buy anything from people who won't reply. |

What are you saying lawerance ? He might be posting a generic photo on flee bay, and pocketing the cash....NO ! That would be the 1st time that has ever happened Haha Yeah... that sounds very shaddy to me also, im glad to know im not the only one that will post a question any question to the seller just to see how they respond before I bid....saves alot of head ache Prop |

'He replied with one line and said he would tell me on the Monday (16th March)' Interesting! I also contacted him via eBay to ask for details of the 'uprating' and his first reply was that I had contacted him before (which I had not) but could have been Lawrence? His second reply on 13 March was 'I will speak with powertune on Monday and find out as much as I can' - Monday was the 16th! Nothing heard since. Richard |

Yup, sounds like another seller to avoid then. |
