MG Midget and Sprite Technical - US type Hinges

OK! I have my US spec hinges (Thanks Prop) As these are going on a Brit shell, can anyone with a US spec shell help with a picky of the mounting? I am presuming that the recess for the Brit spec hinges is not there on a US spec car? Couls it be as easy as drilling out the spotwelds of thr recess plate, plating with flat steel with 4 captive nuts? I do hope so.

Very Besr Regards,

Howie.

Howard,

Im afraid Im loosing something in the translation, can you re-phrase the question.

Would you take a photograph of the hinges in reasonable close-up, with the bonnet propped open and post it to Howie.

AFAIK the US cars had a completely flat bulkhead without the recesses. They weren't plated over, just a flat pressing. I'm afraid I can't help with regard to the hole location.

Howie,
Here is a snap of the hinge in my 72. Yes, the bulkhead is flat behind it.

Cool David,
Thanks for the photo, flat bulkhead! no problem, don't know why we had the inferior hinges this side of the pond?

Regards,

Howie.

You didn't have to try to get the bonnet to clear THREE windshield wipers!

If it helps you to see a flat bulkhead shell, i have one sitting in my garage, I 'm not to far from you.
If/when you have my ali hubs ready bring them over and take a look at the shell at the same time.

I'd remove existing hinges (you need a 1/2" dia wrist that's 360 deg articulated and a 1.5" span hand for this, as well as tiny spanner/ratchet) and bolt the new hinge from the front over the 'hole'.

We should press BMH to do a run of hinges (they said they would consider) as I think it's a better job.

Those are captive nuts behind the bulkhead, right?
