MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Victoria British Steering Wheel
Decided to dress up the midget with a wooden V-B wheel, it arrived in a few days with the hub, the wheel is a pretty standard 6 point attachment unit. Package contents 6 bolts 7 lock washers and 5 5mmX.8 nuts, well at least there were 18 parts. A quick trip to Ace for the missing nut and things went together fine. Old wheel came off using the John Twist BFH method from his videos. New one dropped right in but not enough thread to tighten all the way, dropped a few 1/2" washers under the nut and it tightened down fine. The new wheel does not have the turn signal canceling projections so that will have to be a manual operation, but I've reached the age where I'm allowed to drive for miles with the indicators flashing away with wild abandon. Diameter is slightly smaller than the 4 spoke stocker, feels solid in the hand, and is comfortable to drive. Since the horn is on the directional stalk the central hub and button are non functional and there is a nice little void in there to stash a few bucks or a small bag of reefer. Also picked up a new shift knob as the stocker liked to unscrew itself and hide under the seat when making highway runs, new one went on fine seems solid. |

Well, Bob, especially in Florida, you should fit right in with your signals running full time. Charley |

Mounty Wheel, Mountyltd.com, hub was unmarked from V-B. Hey when in Rome blink on like a snow birds, at least if I'm flashing when I pull into Hertz I won't need my fake ID to rent a Marquis. |

I'm smiling. Aside from the minor glitches in the original post all is well in midgetville. I went with V-B as I've dealt with them and feel comfortable as opposed to some fine ebay products. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMxB4RpCDzA Reasonable price, good wheel, honest vendor. You do loose auto canceling flashers, . Suppose I could find a kit or fabricate something to go on the hub, but don't really care, reminds me of the old Citroen DS. Oh almost forgot, considerably lighter than stock too, no doubt will shave a few seconds off my zero to 60. |

With it being a fatter.rim that should also help I have a tourist trophy thur moss, Iove mine as wheel, they just stand out... my wheel is the opposite of yours ... I think its a 17 inch ... an inch bigger then stock I had to do a few mods as well...no issue with the blinkers ..but the horn, it would just come on whe driving or worse 3 am with no one around...had to do with a spring and how it was grounding, a little foam rubber and a grinder of the spring along with some extra bending and no issues sence One thing I did do, I replaced the hardware with stainless in 8 grade...the stuff that came with the wheel was decent but would tarnish over time ..and appeared to be just off the shelf everyday avg The wooden wheels they just make the car.... I got mine as a freebie when moss had a huge permotion of buy a certian amount of dollars and get free stuff. So worked out perfectly Prop |
