MG Midget and Sprite Technical - washer jets
So, my 1500 needs a new washer jet... but when I tried to remove it - it fell apart. The rubber ones seem awful. Is it sensible to change to the pre rubber bumper metal type... are they any sturdier? Will they look stupid? Are they interchangeable without modification? Is it a hard job? Do i need to take the dashboard off to get at them? Cheers Christian |

From motor factors/shops you could probably get the earlier style jets in black, I’m not sure if modern tubing sizing (therefore the jet inlets) is the same as your and I think the earlier tubing might be a different size so you’d have to check all three, you could also get jets with two nozzles if you wanted the earlier jets which were probably fitted to other cars are more sturdy I think as long as you don’t need to keep adjusting modern made ones . they wont look stupid as who would notice, anyway I think the earlier 1500s were chrome anyway but as you know I know less about 1500s than the little I know about 1275s . AFAIK no modification if the tubing fits . it’s not a hard job and the dashboard remains in (on mine it did anyway) – it is a bit fiddly and best done with the help of a glamorous assistant to stop the jets turning with the lock nut, of course if you have any poor wire connections you will probably disturb them as you try to fit your hand, whatever tool behind the dash if you still have the original manual push reservoir pump you could convert this to any inexpensive electric pump and still keep it looking original by keeping the plunger but fitting a switch behind it or you might even be able to buy a pre-made kit but I not sure |

And if you want to go all the way get the double type! That means 4 jets of water on your screen. It did wonders on my old Mini, stil have not done it on the midget. Can't remember why not... Should do it soon together with fitting a 120degree wiper wheel |

http://www.minispares.com/search/classic/washer%20jet.aspx I'd go for the double jet chrome ones. You're going to have a horrible job fitting whichever replacement you go for, it was bad enough on the Mk2 with the simple frogeye dashboard. |

Christian, I changed the washer jets on my 1275 without any help, I just used the standard single jets bought of ebay, they work fine. Its just a combination of laying on the seats & carefully reaching under the dashboard trying not to disturb any wireing. Don't forget the gasket / washer when fitting the jet. Alan. |
