MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Water leak question
I had my 1971 midget 1275 eng out and put in new rings and some other engine work. Got engine back in and I have a water leak in a wierd place. Between the engine block and the back plate. It drips out very slowly with engine off and cold. I tried tighting up the bolts but it still wants to leak. I never removed the back plate and fly wheel but did unbolt the trans and put in a new clutch. I guess there is a seal between the block and the back plate? Any ideas on this? Anyone ever faces this issue? |

IIRC there are 1 or 2 core plugs in the back face of the block, bad news if it's that as it's engine out again. |

There are two core lugs that DO rust away quietly in peace, unobserved behind the backplate I caught mine just in time but they were spraying water/rust across onto the backplate when I caught them at it ![]() |

Thats the badger - unluckily I think this is engine out. |

yep that must be it, Going to pull Engine :-( Oh well not that big a deal. I just wish I had replaced those plugs when I had the engine out last time. Thanks |
