MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Water Pump Bolts
Simple question; Steel bolts, cast block. Coat the bolts with...? Lithuim grease? Silicon? What do you guys use to stop them corroding? Thanks Mark |

Coppaslip... and all up the shank of the bolts to prevent corrosion with the alloy pump body too. |

I use Coppaslip ? - sort of copper in a grease - anti seize stuff - available usual places incl Halfords etc. Richard. |

I use ARP stainless steel bolts. |

Coppaslip too. |
Brad (Sprite IV 1380) |

Cheap stainless bolts rather than ARP Stainless? |
Daniel Thirteen-Twelve |
cheap moss bolts! Not sure I know what arp is Daniel. Presume it is a tough corrosion resistnat coating? M |
Mark '59 Frog |
not a good idea to mount something made of aluminium with stainless steel bolts. the potential difference will cause corrosion(is it in english the same? it has to do with the electrons and stuff like that) Unless you use a special isolator paste for SS. ARP are one of the world's leading fastner manufacturers. They have their own grade of stainless steel which is of higher quality and 'strength' than other more commonly found grades of stainless steel used on fastners. Alex G - The aluminium water pump is being fastened to a cast iron engine block and there lies the real problem. Ordinary steel bolts compound the problem. Stainless steel bolts alleviate the problem. |
