MG Midget and Sprite Technical - What colour is this?
Hi, My Midge is a 1500 1977 (GAN 6) and therefore I would believe that the colour is perhaps FLamenco Red ? THe colour has been repsrayed on the rear which is a deeper red to that of the front end which is originally and has more of a hint of orange in it? I did obtain a sample/tester of Vermillion but having applied that to the bodywork it's more orange? See pic - I will try & get to a paint shop but if anybody has an idea? Thanks. |

For the collor-blind among us it could be red ... or green. ;) |

It's not vermillion as that is more orange, but, it's so hard to tell colours. Your best option is the bring it to midget50 and then we can all see it and opine :) Tickets for sale - see www.midget50.com |

Since it has been re-sprayed the only way you will match it is with a paint chip. And being red it will have altered from the original anyway. |

I have had this problem with mine. A previous owner had sprayed around the rear arches with various shades of red/orange. As my Midget is suposed to be Flame, I went and had a can of flame mixed at a local paint factors. Unfortunately whoever mixed the paint for the car when it was sprayed all over didnt mix the correct colour. I have since taken the boot lid to have some paint matched to the colour of the car. It still isnt quite right but it is certainly better than what was on there. Red is notoriously difficult to match. It may look perfect in the daylight but at night under a lamp looks totally wrong. Good luck. |

Yeah you're right. Front end is as I say original and more orange (faded, orange peel, so rubbish anyway), back end repsrayed in what I assume is Flamenco. I've ordered a tester bottle for Monday so will have a definitive answer then! Maybe if I develop cataracts that might help? At least that way the paint colour will look good. Cheers. |

That age ought to be Flamenco. |

My vote is blaze.... but then my eyes are just old. Prop |

My vote is on Flamenco. On the other hand it says Flamenco on the paint that I got with the car from the PO. He had it resprayed. Funny thing is that the actual colour is probably vermillion because neither the car nor the paint in the can is anywhere near Flamenco but a good match for vermillion. So, if it has been resprayed you can't even trust the label on the can. //Erik |

I thought this might be useful... http://www.teglerizer.com/mgcolors/ That said Flamenco looks almost pinky purple at the above link, which I don't think is correct at all. Hmmmm.... Malcolm |

My Midget was originally Flamenco Red, and although the PO painted it black, there's still plenty of red to be found. See pic - I think yours is probably Flamenco too. -:G:- |

I purchased the Flamenco tester and applied in a little rust spot on the N/S/R wing. It doesn't match! It's a duller and deeper colour than that on the Midge. I can only take it in and have it matched up. |

If the car has been resprayed during its life, it may not even be a BL colour. |
